Abstract: Corrosion occurs naturally and result in a huge economic loss (about 3.5% GDP) of every country. In order to manage and minimize corrosion, the Material Corrosion Data Base need to be established.
In Vietnam, the atmospheric corrosion has been studied for long time, the corrosion rate data of the materials were determined for different climatic regions by the exposure test in the atmosphere. Based on these data, the relationships between the materials corrosion and the environmental factors was built as the predicting equations, which can be used to calculate the corrosion rate in the regions without the exposure test. Based on the climatic parameters of more than 100 meteorological stations, the corrosion rate of the materials were calculated in order to build the corrosion map all over Vietnam. In addition, the atmospheric corrosivity of the materials were determined according to ISO 9223.
From the above results, the Corrosion Data Base can be developed and explored for materials design as selecting the suitable materials and the means of anti-corrosion as well as to lifetime assessment of the components or equipment.
